Typographic Playing Cards

Book Antiqua is one of the most best-known clones to the typeface Palatino, which was designed by Hermann Zapf. He created Palatino in 1949 and based it off humanist types during the Renaissance. This typeface was created for trade, headings, advertisements and display printing. Some characteristics of Palatino are that these letterforms have larger proportions which results in better legibility. Book Antiqua is a roman style typeface based on drawn like letters from the Renaissance.

I drew inspiration from Chinese culture and designs. Chinese designs are simple and geometric. I wanted to incorporate Chinese flower designs as I found them to have similar geometric qualities.
